Is Women Empowerment Sabotaging Women?

I recently watched a TikTok video about a phenomenon called "Airbnb marriages." With the rise of social media, many people are flaunting their lifestyles online and dating virtually. This brings us to a modern vocabulary: hit-and-runs. Imagine this – ladies are being wed in glamorous Airbnbs, believing it's their man's home. As a dutiful partner, you quickly immerse yourself in house chores, dreaming of starting a family. But little do you know, the lavish lifestyle was all for show. In truth, the man's real life isn’t even close to middle-class comfort. A few days after the wedding, the man claims to leave for a business trip, never to return.

This scenario isn't a far-fetched movie plot; it’s happening L.I.V.E. Why are so many men compelled to live fake lifestyles, and where does women empowerment fit in this narrative?

Is There a Disadvantage to Women’s Empowerment?

While women empowerment has opened doors, it has also created unforeseen pressures. As women rise, some men feel the need to elevate themselves artificially, leading to toxic dynamics in relationships.

Moreover, with women becoming more financially independent, societal expectations on men remain rigid. This imbalance breeds insecurity in men, who may feel inadequate or compelled to deceive.

The data shows a correlation between education and marital stability, suggesting that higher education often leads to more stable relationships. However, a significant number of educated men remain single or divorced, challenging traditional assumptions.

Men’s Perspective on Women’s Empowerment

Many men feel women empowerment shifts the spotlight away from them, leaving them in the shadows. The pressure to meet or surpass women's achievements causes some men to withdraw or live a facade.

On the flip side, others support empowerment but seek inclusion, wishing for societal conversations to focus on uplifting both genders equally. The imbalance can breed resentment when men feel left out of the empowerment narrative.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Empowering women at the expense of men may be sabotaging women in the long run. When men feel marginalized, they may resort to extreme measures like living false lives or avoiding relationships altogether, impacting the very women empowerment seeks to uplift. Therefore, women empowerment should be about balance, fostering environments where both genders rise together, creating healthier relationships.
